Product Description

Finding a pillow just right for your specific needs can be painstakingly difficult and frustrating, driving you to the very brink of giving up completely, convinced that there truly is no such thing as the perfect pillow.  Sounds familiar?  As we, at Hex Valley Down, are well aware of the value of a good night’s rest, we have compiled a short guide to help you choose, yes, the perfect pillow.

Guide to buying a new pillow

Before you make your choice, consider the position you sleep in.  The ultimate function of a pillow is to help keep your head in a neutral alignment with your spine, not bent too far forward or backward.

  • Sleeping on your side:  Make sure you buy a firm enough pillow that would wholly fill up the space between the side of your face and you shoulder.
  • Sleeping on your back:  You will need a softer pillow that will not push your head too far forward.
  • Sleeping on your stomach:  Find a very soft or thin pillow which you can also use as support under your stomach to prevent possible back pain.
  • Still not sure:  The Standard 4 and -5 pillows have been the most popular choice by the general public over the years.

We offer a wide variety of pillows either filled with down or a mixture of down and feathers.  We highly recommend the mixture down and feather pillows as the feathers, due to their structure, are strong and able to support the weight of your head.  Those who prefer a very soft pillow would find what they are looking for from our down pillow collection.

For all of our pillows we use a 100% pure cotton, down- and feather proof fabric to keep it natural and ensure none of the filling escapes or any shafts are protruding to prick the skin.

The Standard 1 to Standard 6 and Standard D1 to Standard D3 refer to the level of firmness of each pillow.  Standard 6 is the most firm with Standard 1 being the least firm.
These lovely miniature pillows have been designed to offer comfort sleeping also to the youngsters.  Bear in mind that these are not meant for infants still in their cribs.  We recommend that you first check with a paediatrician on the ideal age for youngsters to start using pillows.
If you hike regularly, you most probably have had to come to terms with the frustrating reality that bunching up clothes into you sleeping bag stuff bag just does not quite give you that perfect pillow.  Having a real hard time getting that much needed rest after a long, hard day sweating up and down steep mountains, this should sit nicely with you:  At Hex Valley Down we have a deep appreciation of the outdoors and spent weekends away on one of the many beautiful mountain ranges in South Africa or abroad.  This has given us more than enough time to design a pillow through trial and error to finally arrive at a perfect hikers’ pillow.  Not only is it small and lightweight, but can be scrunched up due to the highly compressible nature of down and feathers, thus saving some more much needed space in an already full back pack.
Shaped like a dog bone, as the name implies, this compact neck pillow is ideal for that extra support and comfort needed when watching TV, reading a book in bed or travelling long distances.
A perfect travel essential, the c-shaped neck pillow provides that soothing and soft support for the neck and head enabling you to rest comfortably during your journeys.
Our specially designed, three layered pillows are an absolute treat!  The down and feather mixture as the core, supports the weight of the head whilst the outer down layers are silky smooth to the touch.  Heaven!

MYTH BUSTERS

MYTH: A pillow was never meant to last longer than 2 years and should be replaced frequently.

Rubbish!  I have been sleeping on the same pillow hand made by my mother that I received as a gift, for 35 years this year.  Secrets passed along, we are following in her footsteps producing our own highly durable pillows.

MYTH: Feathers and down pillows must be avoided at all times as I struggle with asthma or allergies.

Though there are rare exceptions, studies have proved you wrong!  In fact, most, if not all, allergic reactions are caused by filling not cleansed or sterilized properly or the dust from disintegrating, processed filling (refer to FAQ “What is the difference between pure down, processed filling and synthetics?).

I go NOWHERE without my goose down pillow! It is THE most huggable, snuggable pillow I have had and I have no more ear ache from sleeping on a hard pillow that flattens in no time. I just punch my pillow every morning (with love!) and voila! I have a HAPPY pillow! 🙂
